Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) introduced the drug Avodart onto the market as a prescription drug in 2002 as a treatment for enlarged prostate gland in men. Avodart decreases the amount of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body, thus allowing the prostate gland to shrink. When the prostate is smaller, it places less pressure on the urinary tract, thereby relieving painful urinary symptoms that often accompany an enlarged prostate.
In 2006, Generic Avodart was granted approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of male pattern hair loss. Often, drugs that decrease circulating levels of DHT cause male pattern baldness to slow or even reverse. A small number of patients taking Avodart experience decreased sex drive, so prospective patients must weigh the advantages and disadvantages of this or any drug before beginning treatment.
Many people in need of the drug turn to the numerous offers of cheap generic Avodart that plague the Internet. It should however be borne in mind that these drugs are all fakes for the simple reason that at present no manufacturer in the world in able to commercially produce the Avodart molecule. It is therefore advisable to refrain from purchasing such dubious products. Moreover, drugs obtained online are usually not certified by health authorities and therefore function outside the cadre of the law. They can contain harmful substances or produce drastic side effects.
Benign prostate hypertrophy is a condition of benign enlargement of prostate mostly found in middle aged men and elder men. There is abnormal increase in the number of prostatic stromal cells and epithelial cells leading to the formation of large nodules in the pre-urethral area of the prostate. Any further increase in their sizes can block the urethral canal completely or partially, thereby resulting in the obstruction of urine flow.
Avodart (Dutasteride) is commonly supplied in the form of soft gelatin capsules in the strength of 0.5 mg. You can take these capsules orally in daily dosage of 0.5 mg with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew or break the capsule as it may create irritation in your lips, mouth, or throat. Follow your doctor's directions and never try to take overdoses of Avodart or doses longer than prescribed by your physician.
Take Dutasteride capsules regularly to derive maximum benefit. Do not discontinue the medicine without consulting your doctor. You have to take capsules for 3 to 6 months continuously before witnessing any improvements in your BPH symptoms. In order to confirm the effectiveness of Avodart (Dutasteride) for your condition, you have to undergo regular check-ups of your prostate.
Your doctor should be informed about any prescription or over-the-counter medicines you are currently taking that may interact with Avodart (Dutasteride). These drugs should also include vitamins, minerals and herbal products. Take your doctor or pharmacist's approval before starting or stopping any medicine.
